Venice

Venice

We arrived on the overnight train very excited and a little tired. Exploring Venice at five in the morning was one of the coolest experiences we had. It’s eerie to see a city reputed for it's crowds almost completely empty. Not just the side streets but everywhere we went there was hardly a soul.

As the sun began to rise on our day in the city we reached St Mark's Square to catch a glimpse of the famous landmark before anyone started to arrive.

The effort paid off, we caught the square still lit up!

Only moments later the lights vanished and the square lost just a bit of it's magic.

St. Marks Basillica forms the eastern end of the square.

It's a truely beautiful structure that's stood for almost a thousand years!

Next we headed to the peir, a short walk south, where we caught a view of another ancient structure Fun fact it was home to Venice's artillery!

The entire coastal area is relaxing and has an amazing soundscape in the morning. We passed a few people going for jogs.

We'd almost reached the most important part of the day, Lunch Time! We headed to Farini Venezia Srl to enjoy an absolutely delicious pistachio spread on a croisant. Along with a good, but far less memorable sandwhich.

A similar pistachio spread can be bought in grocery stores in Itally & Germany at the very least, and makes a fantastic gift! (note for travel purposes it is a liquid, check it or buy under ~100ml)

Delicious crêpes were also available.

Venice was really a wonderful place to visit, we had the fortune of seeing it during a lul in pandemic cases but before tourism had picked up, during an off peak season in the early morning. I'd recommend visiting but doing what you can to avoid the crowds. Our visit was completely unlike the stories I'd heard.

Thanks for coming with us on this adventure through venice, we're heading home now, subscribe below to join us on future journies!
